Every painting on this site passes the same checks before it goes on sale.
- Public domain, confirmed. The artist died more than 70 years ago and the work predates 1930 — so the art belongs to everyone.
- The museum's own file. We source the open-access master scan published by the holding museum (or its documented mirror), never a re-photograph of unknown origin.
- Looked at, by a person-level check, every time. Each downloaded file is visually compared against the museum's record — subject, orientation, composition — before any product is created. If we can't confirm it's the painting, it doesn't go up.
- Resolution floor. We only offer print sizes the scan honestly supports (at least 150 DPI at full size). We never upscale past what the file contains, which is why some paintings offer fewer sizes.
- No silent crops. If a work's proportions don't fit our canvas formats without meaningful loss, we don't sell it — we'd rather skip a famous print than trim it.
- Stories with sources. Product-page stories cite the institution they come from. If a fact can't be traced to a museum record or documented scholarship, we leave it out.
