Night

Painting at night poses a particular challenge: how to render moonlight, lamplight, or candlelight convincingly on canvas. Painters from the Dutch Golden Age to the Impressionists and beyond have taken up that challenge, each finding a different kind of glow to work with on a dark canvas.

This collection includes Van Gogh's Cafe Terrace at Night and Starry Night Over the Rhone, Whistler's Nocturne and Nocturne: Blue and Gold, and Aert van der Neer's Moonlit Landscape with Bridge. Every canvas is made to order and labeled with its size against the original painting.
