Starry Night Over the Rhône — Vincent van Gogh (1888)

Product description

The stars he painted a year before The Starry Night.

Van Gogh painted the Rhône at Arles by night in September 1888, with the new gas lamps of the town burning gold across the water and the Great Bear overhead — he described exactly this scene in a letter to his brother Theo. A couple walks the bank in the foreground.

  • Honest scale — the original is 72.5 × 92 cm (28.5 × 36.2 in); the 36 × 24 canvas is about its real size.
  • Verified story — the letter describing the scene is documented; the painting hangs in the Musée d'Orsay.
  • Source recorded — public-domain file via Artvee, printed on matte canvas. Made to order.
