Choosing a canvas print should feel exciting — not confusing. But when you come across terms like true-size, Room Edition, and miniature, it's easy to wonder: what do those actually mean on my wall?
This guide breaks down each format so you can pick the right scale with confidence, whether you're hanging art in a cozy reading nook or making a statement above the sofa.
What Is a True-Size Print?
A true-size reproduction is printed to match the original artwork's actual physical dimensions — the exact measurements of the painting or drawing as it exists (or existed) in the world.
That matters because most art prints you'll find elsewhere are resized to fit standard poster dimensions: 18×24", 24×36", and so on. Those sizes have nothing to do with the original work — they're chosen for printing convenience. A true-size print doesn't do that. It preserves the proportions and scale the artist intended.
For example, a small oil sketch by a 17th-century Dutch master may have been only 6×8 inches — intimate and meant to be held close. A true-size version of that piece respects that intimacy. On the other hand, a monumental 19th-century salon painting may span several feet — and a true-size canvas lets you feel the ambition of that original scale in your own home.

What Is a Room Edition?
Room Edition is our label for prints scaled to work with the proportions of a real living space — wall widths, ceiling heights, and the furniture around them.
Some original works were painted on a scale that makes them difficult to live with: too tall for a standard ceiling, too wide for most walls, or too small to hold presence in a larger room. A Room Edition adjusts the size — up or down — so the artwork fits your space without losing what makes it compelling.
Think of it this way: if true-size is about honoring what the artist made, Room Edition is about making that art livable. The image is the same. The proportions are the same. The size has been thoughtfully adapted.
When you see the Room Edition label on a product, you'll also find the original dimensions listed in the product description so you always know what you're comparing against.
What Is a Miniature?
A miniature is a small-format print — typically under 8×10 inches — that's a great fit when you want to:
- Add art to a tight space like a hallway, entryway, shelf, or windowsill
- Group several works in a gallery wall without any single piece dominating
- Give a meaningful, affordable gift that can travel easily
- Let a child display their own favorite artwork in their room
Miniatures work beautifully when framed, but they also hold their own propped on a ledge or tucked into a bookshelf. Because they're small, the detail in the print matters — and that's something we take seriously at every size we offer.
A miniature is not a compromise. Some of the most beloved works in art history were originally small — painted as gifts, studies, or devotional objects. A miniature reproduction of one of those pieces is actually the closest you can get to the original experience.
How the Formats Compare at a Glance

|---|---|---|
| Miniature | Scaled down for small spaces & gifts | Gallery walls, shelves, children's rooms, gifts |
| True-Size | Original artwork dimensions | Collectors, art lovers who want historical accuracy |
| Room Edition | Adapted for real wall & furniture scale | Living rooms, dining rooms, larger statement walls |
Choosing the Right Format for Your Wall
Start with your wall. Measure the width of the space where you want to hang the piece. A common rule of thumb is that wall art should fill roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the wall width above furniture — so a sofa that's 84 inches wide calls for art (or a grouping) that spans roughly 56–63 inches.
Then consider your furniture scale. A low, modern credenza suits a wider, lower canvas. A tall armchair or reading nook can carry a portrait-format piece that goes higher up the wall.
Finally, think about framing. Miniatures often look striking in a thin, simple frame that doesn't compete with the image. True-size and Room Edition prints have more room to breathe — wider frames, deeper floater frames, or unframed stretched canvas can all work well depending on your style.
