Infrared imaging by the Art Institute found pinholes at several distinct vanishing points in this canvas — Caillebotte physically anchored a straightedge at each one to engineer a wide-angle, cropped, "photographic" composition in 1877. In person it's monumental: the foreground couple is nearly life-size.
