Product description

Meet Van Gogh's Bedroom at 99% of the size he painted it.

He described these walls as pale lilac — they faded to blue. Van Gogh listed every colour of this room in a letter to his brother Theo: "the walls pale lilac… the floor a broken and faded red." The red in his violet wasn't stable; over 130 years it faded out, and paint protected under the frame's edge is still violet today. Documented by the Art Institute of Chicago's conservation science.

  • Honest scale — the original is 73.6 × 92.3 cm (29 × 36⅝ in). Our 36 × 24″ canvas is 99% of true size; 18 × 12″ is the Room Edition.
  • Verified story — the lilac-to-blue fading, sourced at the Art Institute of Chicago.
  • Source recorded — printed from the museum's own open-access master scan (350 DPI) on matte canvas. Made to order.
